In the ‘60s, the 365GTB/4 coupe and GTS/4 Spider were known as the Daytona Ferraris, inspired by Ferrari’s 1-2-3 finish at the 1967 Daytona 24-hour race. The title was never an official one, till now and the styling is reminiscent of the three Ferraris that had taken the podium: a 330P3/4, a 330P4, and a 412P.

So now there’s finally the Daytona SP3, and it will be produced in the limited number of 599 units, costing around $2.26 million. Deliveries will start in 2022 and be completed in 2023.

The Ferrari Daytona SP3 carries a 6.5-liter V12 that comes mid-rear-mounted and makes for 840 unstoppable horses. The engine is based on the one the 812 Competizione carries, but with a new induction and exhaust system. There are several internal upgrades as well, like titanium con rods, piston pins, camshafts, and more. A lot of the parts have been treated with what Ferrari calls the "Diamond Like Carbon Treatment", which reduces friction and makes for better performance.

More modifications have been made to the direct injection fueling system with twin pumps supplying four separate fuel rails. For now, the Daytona SP3 is the most powerful Ferrari road-car combustion engine, and it comes paired with a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox.

Ferrari fans have been waiting three years for the second Icona, after the Monza in 2018. Ferrari’s Icona range are special-edition limited cars that come inspired by the legends in Ferrari’s glorious legacy. And Ferrari reserves them for their loyal and eclectic customers, obviously the ones with the deepest pockets.

Most of Ferrari’s V-12 engines now go into limited series models, thereby limiting the gas-guzzling pollution, considering it too is heading the electric way. A few hybrid models are already out and Ferrari is gearing up for an all-electric model as well, sometime soon.

The car looks stunning, and the aerodynamics have to be a whiz. Only 599 Ferrari enthusiasts will be able to buy this beauty, so all we can do is look at it from afar and admire it.
