The road to used car ownership just got easier if you're planning to purchase a pre-owned Lotus Elise or Exige, as the British auto company has just launched a manufacturer-backed Approved Used program for used Lotus sports cars.

The program sees dealers offering flexible finance on used or pre-owned Lotus cars.

'Lotus Approved' Scheme For Used Cars

Dubbed as the "Lotus Approved" scheme, this program was re-launched as an enhanced offering as dealers in the United Kingdom opened their doors to potential clients on April 12, 2021. These UK dealers will be able to stamp "Lotus Approved" status on pre-owned cars with an age of up to 20 years old. In a way, Lotus Approved serves as an affordable entry point into owning a Lotus car.

Of course, these pre-owned cars need to meet a strict set of criteria before they become Lotus Approved. For instance, a car needs to undergo comprehensive technical checks as well as outstanding vehicle preparation. Such requirement allows Lotus to ensure high-quality and consistent standards of pre-owned cars across its network.

Once stamped, a Lotus Approved car is entitled to full-service history + HPI / Experian vehicle history check, vehicle identity check with mileage verification, multi-point vehicle inspection by a Lotus factory-trained technician, as well as a 10-mile road test by a Lotus factory-trained technician.

Aside from a 12-month minimum warranty as well as a 12-month breakdown cover, a Lotus Approved car would also be entitled to appropriate service and MoT (if due within three months), MoT test cover policy, and full vehicle valet.

Geoff Dowding, Executive Director for Sales and Aftersales at Lotus, called the Lotus Approved scheme a win-win scenario for customers as it adds value to their cars, and for retailers, since the program represents an opportunity to expand their customer base.

Now offered in the UK, the Lotus Approved scheme will later expand into Europe and other international markets this year.
